SciShield, based in Cambridge, MA, is a community driven web-based application that provides solutions to the scientific research community at-large. Founded by researchers, for researchers – the SciShield application is used in universities, hospitals and pharmaceutical research centers across the country. SciShield’s continual aim is to streamline laboratory safety and regulatory compliance management to increase safety and productivity while decreasing costs, hassle, and risk. Our ability to make this aim a reality begins with our intimate knowledge of laboratories, research center management, health and safety workflows, and proper software design.

Job Description

Our dream applicant for this role will be excited about bringing new modern solutions to an industry that is plagued with uninspired legacy-driven approaches to health and safety. You will work closely with our customers and prospects to understand and tie their needs to functionality that the SciShield product can provide. By understanding our users, and the pains they feel, you will not only introduce them to existing SciShield solutions, but also invent new ways to make their lives easier.

This role will report to the Director of Sales and have a primary responsibility to promote passion for our product and to support our sales staff as a subject matter expert. You will work closely with new prospects to understand their needs and to demonstrate capabilities of the SciShield application. As a front-line product representative, you will provide a critical ear to the ground to identify emerging industry trends and common unmet needs that result in future capabilities of our product. You will have ownership of new project initiatives, including documenting the needs and coordinating with the development team to bring them to life.

Additional responsibilities will include trade show attendance, participating in industry roundtable discussions, answering RFPs, and performing product demonstrations (both on location and online). You should expect occasional travel with this role.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Contribute to product roadmap and strategy, taking into account common sales barriers, emerging market trends, product scalability, technical feasibility, market impact and competitor insights.
  • Perform web and in-person demonstrations to guide potential customers through our system and show how we can help address their needs.
  • Drive discussions with sales prospects regarding their needs and how they can be adapted into features that align with SciShield’s business and development goals.
  • Convert new ideas into clear and concise requirement documentation with prioritized features and corresponding justifications.
  • Strategize approaches with sales leadership to deliver an excellent experience that effectively conveys the unique power and effectiveness of SciShield.
  • Attend trade shows, seminars, round-tables and other laboratory safety community events.
  • Stay current on trends and developments in the industry through web research including reading trade journals, newsletters and blogs, and attending trade-shows, sales seminars, and educational meetings.
  • Understand the technical capabilities and constraints of our platform, and guide prospective customers to solutions that maintain our future scalability.

Requirements

  • 3+ years experience as either a laboratory researcher or laboratory safety/health and safety specialist 
  • Degree/diploma in Chemistry, Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Physiology, Physics, industrial hygiene or other related discipline is preferred 
  • Working knowledge of research laboratory processes, equipment, and facilities 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills 
  • Possess superior analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills 
  • Well-organized, respectful, and responsible team-player 
  • Ability to communicate complex technical topics to technical and non technical people 
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves to get the job done 
  • An uncompromising attention to detail, extreme organization, great at solving problems and able to handle multiple initiatives simultaneously. 
  • The ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and changing business priorities. 
  • Able to learn new skills and technologies quickly 
  • A positive, upbeat, can-do attitude
