Lebanon, NH — May 5, 2011 — BioRAFT, the developer of the BioRAFT suite of laboratory safety and compliance management solutions, has announced that its President and CEO, Nathan Watson, has been appointed to the board of directors for The Laboratory Safety Institute (LSI), an international non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and ensuring laboratory health and safety. Watson joins other industry representatives on the eight-person board, which is charged with improving safety practices and regulatory compliance in secondary school, college and university, hospital, and industrial laboratories.
“LSI is very pleased that Mr. Watson has been elected to our board of directors,” says James Kaufman, president and CEO of The Laboratory Safety Institute. “He brings to our board a unique blend of background and interest in environmental health and safety, along with tremendous technology expertise. His advice, ideas, and contributions in this area will be invaluable.”
The educational organization, founded in 1978, has grown to provide such services as onsite training programs, on-demand tutorials, safety inspections and audits, safety program development consultations and reviews, and regulatory compliance reviews for a range of laboratory types.
“Accidents in research and other laboratories pose a threat to not only employees and the environment, but to national security. We need to be more proactive when it comes to safety,” says Nathan Watson, president and CEO of BioRAFT. “I am honored to join the LSI board as it works to improve the health, safety, and security practices of laboratories around the world.”
Watson is a researcher who has managed laboratories at the University of California San Francisco Medical School and Dartmouth Medical School, and conducted clinical cancer research at Georgetown University’s Lombardi Cancer Center.
Watson launched BioRAFT to address the challenges that research laboratories face in managing the complex and growing array of safety and compliance requirements. The BioRAFT platform replaces paper-based tracking systems and multiple individual applications with an integrated suite of modules that track and manage compliance for biosafety, hazardous chemicals, radiation use, and more. These modules eliminate the silos of data that lead to administrative nightmares, fines for non-compliance, and accidents, and cost-effectively increase performance by allowing scientists and other lab workers to concentrate on their work rather than managing their compliance status.
BioRAFT is a research management system that reduces institutional risk by integrating compliance oversight, productivity, and scientific research management solutions in one centralized platform. Developed for pharmaceutical and biotech companies, government laboratories, and academic research institutions, the BioRAFT suite of laboratory management modules significantly improves laboratory safety, compliance processes, researcher productivity, and management oversight. BioRAFT enables researchers to focus on their research by managing compliance for biosafety, training, hazardous chemical, radiation management, MSDS, and other laboratory safety requirements.
